Yass Christmas Parade THIS Thursday

Yass is abundant with festivities and events this month with the local Christmas Parade and late-night shopping on tomorrow (December 16).

Volunteer Barry O’Mara said everything is going according to plan with several community groups participating alongside emergency services such as Binalong Rescue, the local brigade and RFS.

Among the groups involved are Yass Rotary Club, Lion’s Club, SPIN (Supporting People In Need) Foundation, Yass Can Assist and Antique Machinery Club.

Radio station 2CA’s very own Chris Beckhouse will emcee the parade and announce participants as they move down the street.

Barry said Yass Valley Council received sponsorship from Bango Wind Farm to purchase 100 x $20 Yass Valley Vouchers to spend locally and hand out to the children at the parade.

Besides Council the working group organising the event is also made up of Yass Business Mums, SPIN Foundation, Rotary, Lions Club, and the Yass Valley Business Chamber.

The SPIN Foundation will be handing out lollies as the group walks down the street. The not-for-profit will also be selling tickets for their Monster Stocking Christmas raffle.

Yass Rotary Club will have two barbecues, one on either side of the street, in an attempt to ease crowd congestion.

Can Assist are having ice creams and a fairy floss machine and the Lion’s Club will be hosting their Christmas ham raffle and Spinning Prize Wheel.

The Antique Machinery Club will be holding a static display and the Yass Fire Brigade will hold demonstrations out the front of the firehouse.

There are now over 40 stallholders ready to sell their wares for Christmas shoppers throughout the late-night shopping.

Luckily COVID-19 restrictions in NSW are set to ease from today (December 15). The same rules will apply to all people, regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not, in most settings.

The Christmas Parade will therefore not require a COVID-Safe check-in and density limits will no longer apply.

Both Comur and Meehan Street will be closed from 5:30pm till late on both sides of the road from the traffic lights up through to Trader & Co and from the traffic lights to the fire station.
