Yass’ Community Christmas Carol event drew a large and festive crowd last Sunday at Victoria Park with unusually sunny weather.
After being cancelled last year due to coronavirus restrictions, the combined churches of Yass Valley got together to create an evening for the whole family to enjoy.
Many locals brought their own camp chairs and picnic rugs to enjoy the carols on the grass while kids enjoyed the two jumping castles and fairy floss available. Yass Community Baptist Church Pastor Nick Barber and Michael Pilbrow emceed the festivities announcing upcoming acts and speeches.
Besides the choir, soloists also featured were Rachel McNally nee Thorne, Daniel Kelly, and Amy Jones (Hass).
The incredibly talented Rachel sung the live premiere of her Christmas song The Reason For The Season alongside Amy.
Yass musician Daniel Kelly, known around town for his album Zombie Sheep of the Murrumbidgee featuring ballads about the history of Yass, sang 80s bop Jack Frost and the Hooded Crow written by Jethro Tull.
The day was also an opportunity to raise funds for Zac’s Place and Headspace in Yass.
Co-founder Ros Stewart spoke about Zac’s Place, a Christian in ethos but non-denominational establishment for those in need. Located at the old St Clement community hall/tennis clubhouse, Zac’s Place has a drop-in session on the first Saturday of every month from 10am to 1pm.
