At Dowsett Fields on Anzac Day from 12:15pm, the Yass Rams took on the Australian Defence Force Academy, where they went down 60 – 15.
Bronson Sainsbury of the Club said, “They had a massive function on that day. They had a very strong, very vocal crowd. It was their first game of the season. They’ve had to forfeit the last two rounds because they can only play during the time that they’re at college, essentially. It was their first game, so we had no idea what they were going to be like this year. They had a very strong team,” he said.
“They had a couple of very good players out there. We were down about six players, which wasn’t ideal. We were probably a little bit undermanned, and they were just very good, very quick, well-drilled, threw the ball around a lot.
“Our defence just wasn’t up to it in the end, so it was a pretty tough day.
“The game was just part of the usual season. Our game was the only game that was played on the Saturday, that round. Both the other games were played on a Friday, and the women’s competition had a general bye.
“We narrowly lost the first game against Bungendore. We lost the second one fairly convincingly against Jindabyne, and that was up in Jindabyne.
“It’s been a pretty tough start to the season for us, really. We’ve started with three away games. We’ve had three losses, one of them close, two of them not close at all.
“We’re looking forward to being back home this weekend in Victoria Park and taking on Cooma.
“There was a pretty frank discussion at training.
“There are probably a few players there who will be fairly down on their performance on the weekend. We’ll be looking at a few things that we need to fix for the weekend.”
