The Yass Rams beat Crookwell Dogs at Crookwell on Saturday, marking a great win before they take on Jindabyne this week for their final game this season.
Captain of the team, Harry Roach, said it was good to get an away win before the season closes.
“We started really well. We scored a couple of quick tries. Everything was working quite well. Crookwell always steps up the style of footy they play and the attitude they have at home; they don’t go away. With the way the momentum was swinging, they got ahead, but we snuck back in.
“We scored after the siren, actually, which was good. The boys were very excited to win like that.
“We are better with our discipline. We struggled a little bit in the middle of the game, but our discipline towards the end improved. Instead of piggyback penalties and pushing passes, we seemed to click back into gear and stopped making it as easy for Crookwell.
“We didn’t have too many on the bench, so a few boys had to play some big minutes.
“This week we have got our final game of the season. I don’t think we’ll play in the finals. The final game of the season is against Jindabyne this weekend back in Yass, in front of the home crowd, which I’m very excited for.
“We have been getting a good crowd at home games this season. We had Old Boys’ Day earlier in the year. We had a Ladies Day, this weekend coming up is our Sponsors Day, so we are expecting some good numbers again. Hopefully, the weather can hold off and give us a nice day for country rugby.
“Jindabyne are a good team; they are coming 2nd at the moment, although they just beat Bungendore, who are coming 1st, so they are primed and ready for finals footy. They are going to be strong.
“We are looking to cause a little bit of an upset. They’re playing to improve their spot for finals contention, and we’re just playing for fun at this stage. We’ve got nothing to lose, and they’ve got a little bit to lose.
“Heading to the final round, our season has been up and down, I must say. It’s always nice to get a few extra games of footy in by playing finals, but we’ve had very good numbers turning up, and we’ve had everyone enjoying themselves. On paper, not as successful as we could have been, but everything else has been fantastic.
“The girls got washed out over the weekend, but they’re playing before us. They had their washout game, which was against Bungendore, so they are making up for that.”
The Rams will play Jindabyne Bushpigs on July 18 at home. Come support the Ewes and the Rams for their final game of the 2026 season.
