The 2025 polocrosse season has come to an end, with the Yass Club celebrating with annual presentations, Christmas Party and AGM at the new home grounds ‘Marchmont Racecourse Reserve’ on Gums Lane Yass.
The Club had a big year, commencing at the Berragoon Incentive at Holbrook in early January and finishing at the Family Carnival at Gulgong in August.
Billie Curtis and Georgia Hughes took to the field for the first time, and it was great to watch former Nationals level horse ‘Bengoran Yim’ come out of retirement to look after Billie on the sub junior field.
On and off the field, the club spirit was certainly strong with great camp camaraderie, many babysitters as the Club demographic changes, scorers and great memories recalled and made around campfires.

We celebrated the wedding of Henry Cartwright and Hayley Debritt, no one more so than Henry, and the birth of more sub juniors with the arrival of Claire Hocking and Brad’s second son Lachie.
While players were disappointed the Zone Championships were cancelled due to wet weather, three Yass members were selected to represent NSW at the Australian National Championships in Darwin in June 2026. Rachel Hughes in the Masters Women, Johnnie Erland in the Juniors and Bailey Yeo in the Sub Juniors, (under 12). All well-deserved selections given the level of work put in by these players and their horses.

The 2025 season individual Club award winners were:
Most Improved Junior – Elliott Hughes
Best Junior Horse & Rider – Johnnie Erland & ‘Bengoran Transit’
Most Improved Player – Bailey Yeo
Sportsperson of the Year – Jo Curtis
Most Improved Horse – Ray White Memorial Trophy Matt Yeo’s ‘Yeobrien Amie’
Best Women’s Horse & Rider – Helen Castle-Roche Memorial Trophy Rachel Hughes & ‘Magic’
Best Men’s Horse & Rider Bob Jones Memorial Trophy Callum Hughes & ‘Berragoon Appeal’
Best Presented Horse – Alex Willey’s ‘Mistral’
President’s Award – Cathy Bennett & Michael Gorman

As usual there were lots of more amusing awards, but special mention needs to go to Alex Willey and Jo Curtis for their numerous ‘best on ground’ performances over the season’.
The Club is now looking forward to hosting their annual carnival back at Marchmont on the Anzac weekend, 25th and 26th April 2026.
