Yass Netball Association’s trivia night on May 9 at the Soldiers Club from 7:00 pm was a great success for the Club, who are looking to play round 4 of their local competition on Monday.
All reports indicate it was a fun filled night with lots of prizes that were won, lots of excitement and laughter that was had. It had a great turnout from the community.
President of the Yass Netball Association, Matt Carroll, said it was very well attended.
“It was great to see a lot of people from outside the netball community in attendance. It was a really successful night,” he said.
“There was a bit of everything in terms of questions. There was general knowledge. There was a Yass-specific round. There was a Yass netball-specific round at the end. There was a wide variety of questions for the participants to pick their brains on.
“It’s a good feeling because you’re always a bit iffy about the first time you host a trivia night. Is it going to be successful? Is it going to be well attended? What will people think? Will people enjoy themselves? We ticked all those boxes. We had good numbers in attendance. Those who did attend enjoyed themselves and have indicated that they’ll be coming back next year.
“The winter competition started two weeks ago. Unfortunately, the first week was washed out due to rain, and tonight’s going to be washed out as well. We’re not having a really good start to the social comp so far, but we can’t really control the weather.”
Yass Netball play a social competition on Mondays at Joe O’Connor Park Netball Courts.
“There are two time slots. There’s a junior time slot and a senior time slot.
The junior slot consists of the Net Set Go program for junior kids, five years up to around nine years of age, and this could be their first exposure to netball, or they may have had some exposure last year. Now, it’s about getting the core skills down, the basics first, and they can build on them.
“At the same time, there’s the Set and Go programs, which are for older kids, around school age, and they’re doing a little bit of skills because there’s a lot of new players coming in, which is good. Then they’re playing a couple of round robin games to see out their time slot. In the seniors, we’ve got eight teams nominated. That’s four courts in use. It’s good to see.
“People are probably aware of the court redevelopment. That’s taken a lot longer than it should have due to circumstances beyond our control, but the courts are satisfactory for use at the moment. They’re not finished, but they’re satisfactory enough to play our social comp on and host our gala day in June. When the weather warms up again, the final surface will be put on and marked for netball use later in the year.”
