Yass Junior Rams are hosting a Gala Day on April 5 from 8:30am until 2:00pm at Victoria Park for a round-robin rugby gala day.
Teams will range from U10’s to U16’s with mixed, girls and boys teams. Participating will be teams from Goulburn, Young, Crookwell, Yass, Queanbeyan, Harden and Tudor House.
Fred Clark of the Yass Rams said it will be a big event with hundreds of players coming along to the event.
“There will be mostly country town clubs in our vicinity coming along, such as Young, Harden, Goulburn and Crookwell and also Tudor House School is coming from Mossvale, so there will be six to eight clubs with about 200 players,” he said.
“What I have noticed over the last five years is that the Canberra clubs have a lot of preseason activities and tournaments like the Seven’s tournament and Gala Days in the city. All of the Clubs do those pre-season and Gala Days. Country town clubs I have observed, with distance, either too far away or people aren’t signed up yet, don’t get to the big smoke to do those preseasons, so I thought I would start organising last year a small scale pre-season set of matches for country town clubs that are too far from the big city and still need those same opportunities.”
“This is the second year. Last year we had three clubs. This year will be six to eight.
“Last year the clubs really expressed their appreciation for organising it because it got them set up for the season in a way they hadn’t done before and they were set to go two or three weeks earlier and that is a big jump on the season and if you don’t have it, it is a big missing piece.”
