The Yass Ewes have claimed their first win of the season at Braidwood on Saturday with a dominant win against Uni-North Owls 52-0. The Rams also played at Victoria Park the same day, where they were unlucky against Jindabyne, going down 52 – 17 after a shaky second half.
As part of the gala day, Yass Ewes were able to play another game against Hall Bushrangers, where they just lost 22 – 27.
Bronson Sainsbury, Team Manager of the Yass Rams, said it was an exciting weekend for the club, even if the men couldn’t get the win as well.
“We had a player go down with a serious neck injury in the 1st minute. The game was held up while we had to get an ambulance. The game was held up for probably 40 minutes or so, and then we started again. Very unfortunate way to start,” he said.
“The first half went really well. We were very competitive in the first half. We led for parts of it. We went to the halftime break down by 2, so it was 17-19 at halftime. Then in the second half, things didn’t go our way.
“Jindabyne really came out firing and kept us pinned in our own half for most of the time. We didn’t get any balls, and we had a player sent off with a yellow card, which put us under a bit of pressure for a while as well.
“As the game slipped out of our hands, we made a few changes, put a few players on who don’t get much of a run normally, and then the scoreline blew out a little bit towards the end. The score really doesn’t reflect how close it was, particularly in the first half.
“The first half is probably some of the best football that we’ve played all year. It was disappointing for it to fall apart in the second half.
“Our game against the ADFA Lions is a forfeit as they are away on exercises.
“The women’s gala day over in Braidwood was great. They’ve really turned it around, it seems. They had a great first win of the season, and to win by that much is pretty incredible. The ladies had a really good game.
“They are building nicely towards the end of the year and hopefully laying a good foundation for next year.”
The ladies play at home this week against Bungendore in Yass at 1:15pm as the ADFA Lions have forfeited the scheduled Rams game.
