The Yass Rams have come together and got behind player Harrison Locke over the last few weeks after he sustained a serious neck injury.
Harrison fractured his C1 vertebrae, however his prognosis looks positive and thankfully a full recovery is hopefully on the horizon.
The Times spoke with Bronson Sainsbury from the Rams.
“We have had quite a few donations. When the GoFundMe ends, we will give him some more money from the club and we will put into an injured player’s fund for future injuries.
“He is recovering well and expected to make a full recovery. People hear spinal injury and think the worst, but I think he is pretty lucky, he fractured his C1 but there was no nerve damage or anything like that. He will be in a neck brace for 12 weeks and then he’s expected to make a full recovery.
“I’m not sure if he’ll be playing footy again, but in terms of his mobility and everything else, he’ll be fine.
“The ladies team had another win at gala day on Saturday against Easts. That was their second win of the season, so they are coming together. Obviously they’re well out of finals contention now, but things seem to be coming together for them, which is good. They’ve recruited really well as the season’s gone along. They started a little bit short. There was a few concerns in the preseason that we might not even have a women’s team this year, but they seem to have built as they’ve gone along and got a lot better. So I think that will sit them in a good position coming in to the next season.
“They have picked up a few girls who have played a little bit of league before, so that’s just transitioning them across, which is probably a little bit easier in tens than it would be in 15s, but they’re looking good as long as they can stick together over the offseason and get into preseason, then I think they’ll have a pretty good year ahead of them next year.
“This week we are at home. The girls have got two games. They’ve got Bungendore. We had a washout a couple of weeks ago, so that is the makeup game against Bungendore. It is more important for Bungendore than it is for us. For us it is just a chance for a hit out.
“I think that kicks off at 11am, the women kick off against Jindabyne at 1:15pm and then the men finish off their season against Jindabyne at 2:30pm.
“It is actually the last game of the season for the men. We won last week, which was good, that is what we needed to do, but we needed Cooma to beat ADFA last weekend, but ADFA won that one.
“I think we are five points behind, even if ADFA lost this weekend and we won with a bonus point, they would still beat us on for and against.
“I think we would need to beat Jindabyne by 100 or something. We will be battling to beat them, let alone beat them by that much.
“The game this weekend is the last competition round before the finals, so that should see us out.
“It hasn’t been a bad seasonal overall. Hopefully we can finish off on a winning note.
