On the back of their latest incredible 133-10 win against the Woden Blues, on their home soil at Solar Park in Phillip, ACT, the Murrumbateman Eagles are busy preparing for their last Home and Away game of the season against the Cootamundra Blues.
President Brent Lello says their last match against Woden was a fantastic win, as they’ve always proved to be a strong contest.
“It solidified our process and the on-ground system that we have in place,” he says.
“[It also shows] the maturing of skill level in all of our players.
“We are really starting to hit at the right end of the season, so it was a very solid win.
“Now we look forward to the next challenge.”
The Eagles are currently leading the charge in first place on the ladder, and Brent says he doesn’t have any concerns about their upcoming match against the Coota Blues (who currently hold second position).
“We are first and second on the ladder, and through our good work throughout the season, we are into the finals mix, and we very much view Cootamundra as being right at the pointy end where it counts,” he says.
“They beat us previously at the game in Cootamundra, and I think that was a good win by them.
“[But] we are looking forward to hosting them out in Murrumbateman, and it’ll be a good measure of where we are at [as] we are the first two teams on the top of the ladder in the Home and Away series.
“We will view this as our benchmark on our performance, and what we [will] need to do to do our best in the finals.”
Teamwork has proved to be foundational to their place as first on the board, and Brent says it’s because there’s no ‘I’ in ‘Team’.
“Every player plays well, so there’s not any particular individuals to keep an eye out for,” he says.
“I think that’s the important message out of this season for us: we are becoming a very good team, not just a team of very good players, and I think that’s all working for us.”
Ahead of their last game in Murrumbateman, Brent says they invite the community to come down for their 12.00pm kick-off to cheer on the boys.
“Those coming will have the full game day experience,” he says.
If the action-packed game isn’t enough of an incentive to attend, Brent says they will have their famous pulled pork rolls back on sale in the canteen.
“We are expecting more than 100 supporters there from all across the community,” he says.
“Come along and support the boys for the last time in this series!”
