The Murrumbateman Eagles have continued their solid form leading in to the halfway mark of the 2024 season. The Times caught up with President and die-hard fan of the club, Brent Lello to see how the weekend’s match went against Belconnen.
It was only the second time the Eagles had played on their refurbished home grown which Lello believes is now one of the best in the competition.
He said, “It was a positive result for us. This is our second home game and it’s great to be playing on such a fantastic surface after all these years. That investment is paying dividends, as it’s gone from the worst surface in the competition to one of the best.
“The feedback has been very positive from visiting teams.
“It’s great to get out in front of a home crowd and have a good hit out against Belconnen.
“Apart from one quarter, our guys really put it all together. It was fantastic contested footy and great end to end play.
“The boys really came out to play on the day and that was evidenced by the result.
“The score was Eagles 19: 12: 126 to Magpies 3: 2: 20. We acknowledge that Belconnen is an emerging team and have a lot of young and new players that are finding their straps and we have a lot of new players to our team as well and it’s taking a bit of time to get them playing as a fully functional team and that seems to be happening now.
“Next game we have Cootamundra at Coota and that is always a hard game. Coota are stringing together some wins as well, and that’s always a tough ask to travel out there and back and we are looking forward to the challenge.
“It’s always been a very competitive game, especially the last few years.
This weeks’ awards went were Promac Australia award, Blake Cons; Murrumbateman Pub meal voucher, Mathew Wall; Murrumbateman takeaway voucher, Maverick Shalleos; player’s player, Sam Ryan-Baker and committee award, Lance Musgrove.
