The Eagles have put the rest of the ladder on notice this week with a massive 120-point win over Molonglo Juggernauts at Murrumbateman Park on Saturday.
The final score was 20.15.135 – 2.3.15.
From the starting siren, Murrumbateman were untouchable, only allowing a single goal through by Molonglo while kicking 6 themselves in the first quarter.
In the second quarter, the Juggernauts didn’t even kick a single point while the Eagles kept piling on the points. The Juggernauts attempted a comeback after half-time, but Murrumbateman nipped it in the bud and kept them goalless for the rest of the game.
President of the Club, Brent Lello, said, “It was a solid win for us, for sure, and it is more of a demonstration of our process and the on-field system that the guys are working towards.
“Everyone played well, but everyone played their role in the system, and that really came through on the weekend.
“We pretty much came out of the gates swinging, all the way from the get-go.
“We kept the pressure on at all stages. We didn’t drop off. We kept the one-on-one competitive battle levels up. It was really good to see us really play through the full four quarters with a high level of intensity.
“Matt Bell is our leading goal kicker for the year. He’s been a great forward for us for a number of seasons now, and he continues as a small forward. He very much looks to drive the ball or receive the ball into the forward line, and really be that roving small forward, who is able to capitalise on the ball hitting the ground.
“Blake Collins is one of our seasoned veterans. He’s such a great player, and to see some of the goals that he kicked from right on the boundary pockets, 3 of the 5 he kicked were goal of the year contenders from an Eagles perspective. He had a great game, and it’s great again to see that the forward line’s firing.
“This week we’ve got Woden Blues at Woden. That’ll be another tough challenge for us, and then we’ve got our last home and away game against the Cootamundra Blues at Murrumbateman, which will be 1st v 2nd as the ladder stands right now. We are on equal points, but we’re on top of the ladder by percentage.
“We are looking strongly for the finals, but it’s really up to us to round this season out as strongly as we can. Certainly knowing and understanding that we’re probably going to come across Coota in the finals, and it would be a really good gauge of where we are at.
“The crowds at our home games have been all weather dependent, certainly on the weekend we had 50 to 70 supporters, which is great.
“It’s all support from the community, from the men’s shed to families to wives and girlfriends and everyone in between.
“It is great to see some sponsors down there as well. We try to look after those guys as best we can.
“In the finals, we will look to get a couple of hundred in our final matches.”
The best players were: Benjamin Telford, Ash Johnston, Dominic Duncan, Blake Collins, and Harry Ryan-Baker.
The Eagles play Woden Blues at EPC Solar Park at 12:00 pm on Saturday.
