The Yass Magpies Reserve Grade side continues to be the standout story of the club’s 2026 Canberra Raiders Cup campaign, building on last year’s strong second-place finish and grand final appearance.
With the competition heading into the business end of the home-and-away season, the black-and-white have benefited from a well-timed bye. The scheduled washout/bye round later this month (August 29-30) will give the squad further recovery time, but the immediate focus is the next assignment after their most recent rest period.
Coming off solid form that has kept them competitive in the top half of the ladder, the Magpies Reserves will look to extend their momentum this weekend.The side has shown it can match it with the competition’s stronger outfits through clinical attacking combinations and improved defensive structures.
Coach and club officials have praised the depth and work rate of the reserve-grade group, which has consistently delivered better results than the first-grade side this year. Emerging talent has stepped up alongside experienced local players, producing positive points differentials and several dominant performances.
Supporters are encouraged to get along to Walker Park this weekend to back the Magpies as they push for a top-four finish and another finals campaign. A strong result would further underline the reserves’ status as the club’s success story of the season.
The Magpies will use the remaining rounds, including the late-season bye, to fine-tune for September and keep their premiership hopes alive.
