Luke Berkrey Talks Yass Magpies

Yass Magpies are currently preparing for the 2025 season ahead, with Coach Luke Berkrey giving an update on the Bateman’s Bay trial game.

“Our trial match will now be held on the 22nd at Bateman’s Bay as the NSW Police side has pulled out. We started training in mid-November and we have really progressed in those 12 weeks, but still have lots of room for improvement,” he said.

“The fitness of the blokes has certainly increased. “We will have First Grade, Reserve Grade, Ladies Tackle, Ladies Tag and 19s.

“Not being from Yass or having much to do with Yass, I’ve been learning everyone’s names on the run and we’ve had some juniors come in around the age group of the 16’s as well.

“It’s been good to meet so many new people and start to create a relationship with a few different people.

“Our major sponsor is the Soldier’s Club so we will be getting back there, which will be good.

“It’s unfortunate that we aren’t going to get the two trials, but we are certainly going to make the most out of the one trial and it hasn’t changed too much with our training. “Bateman’s Bay is in the Group 16 comp, and it is similar to us, so we are looking forward to the trial.

“We are just hoping to get out of what we can and hopefully they put up some good players too.

“Now that we only have the one trial I will look at sticking with more of our side that I’m looking to play in round one.

“There’s also an 18s and a Reserve Grade trial game on the same day.

“I’m looking to get the most out of that crew that we are looking to play in round one and those further rounds.

“My body is feeling great and probably the best preseason I’ve had for a while.”
