The 2025 season is off to a flying start with all sorts of weather thrown at us.
The first 2 carnivals at Hall and Lake George saw us playing in heat and dust, and last weekend’s Burradoo carnival saw a few showers and a Scottish style mist with bursts of sun and high humidity. Lucky polocrosse players are tough.
The season has seen a great start with an increase in our sub junior ranks, with six under 12 year old players now representing Yass most weekends. Our ‘subbies’ include: Bailey Yeo, Billie Curtis, Georgia and Elliot Hughes, and Levi and Lexie Bailey. Great to see the kids outside enjoying their ponies and friends.
After just starting to ride in December, Billie Curtis was thrilled to receive the Sub-Junior Encouragement Award at the Lake George carnival.

Lake George was also the 2024 Southern Highlands Zone Annual Presentations dinner.
Yass Club members in the 2024 season winners circle included: Coach of the Year – Katie Yeo, Best B Grade Male – Gael Beaufils, Best Junior Boy – Cameron Clark, Best Intermediate Women’s player – Olivia Erland, Mick Blenkinsopp Memorial for Best No. 2 – Rachel Hughes, Jacko Sillis Memorial for Dedication to Horsemanship – Mat Yeo.
The Burradoo Carnival was a celebration of the 80th year of the Club, and a special event to support Men’s Mental Health and the non-for-profit organisation “Talk2mebro”.

The polocrosse community were saddened by the loss of Burradoo Club stalwart Alan Gilpin late last year and the carnival raised over $30,000 for Talk2mebro.
The weekend was a time of competition, reunions and reflection, recalling good memories and lifelong friendships. None of which should be taken for granted.
The Burradoo competition also saw some great individual results:Champion Women’s Horse of the Carnival and Best A Grade Women’s Horse – Rachael Hughes “Shield” Best B Grade Men’s Horse and the Bill Heuston Memorial for Best B Grade Horse – Alex Willey, Mick Blenkinsopp Memorial for the Best No 2 player – Gael Beaufils.
