Down to the last quarter, the Murrumbateman Eagles have pulled through as number one on the ladder following their explosive final game of the regular season before finals.
Up against number two on the ladder, the Cootamundra Blues, the Eagles knew they were in for a tough match from the very get go.
Last week, President Brent Lello said their match against Coota would serve as a “benchmark on [their performance]” whilst also serving as a guide for what they will need to do ahead of the finals.
This week, the team is celebrating with a 68 to 56 win against the Coota Blues.
With a bye next week, the team is left biting their nails as they await the weekend’s results to see who they will be up against in their final campaign.
A closely matched game, the Eagles were able to pull through in the last quarter after both teams kept the pressure on.
Currently the Eagles sit unchallenged with a match ratio of 91.66, with the Coota Blues sitting on 83.33 and the Southern Cats on 70.83.
The Eagles’ win could be chalked up to the huge crowd of community support who showed up to cheer the boys on.
Community spirit was on full display for a match that showcased pure grit and determination.
