The Murrumbateman Eagles head into the AFL Canberra Community Men’s Division 2 finals series carrying the pride of their village and the values that define their club.
Formed as a community-focused outfit, the Eagles have built their identity around five clear pillars: Football, Family, Community, Fun and Fitness. That foundation has helped the navy, white and yellow become a genuine force in the competition since the club’s establishment.
The senior men’s team has again shown it belongs among the best in Community Division 2, finishing the home-and-away season strongly enough to secure a finals berth.
A hard-fought 68-56 win over Cootamundra Blues in the final regular-season match set the tone. The contest was described by the club as “a belter – neck and neck all the way through,” with both sides applying constant pressure. Award winners that day included Josh Brittliff (Best on Ground), Dave Guttler, Ayden MacDonald, Mitch Lamb, Jono Leayr and Josh Armstrong, reflecting the depth across the group.

After a bye the following week, the Eagles now turn their full attention to the finals campaign. The club remains a true family and community organisation, where supporters, players and volunteers come together each week. Home games at Murrumbateman Recreation Oval have been well backed throughout the year, and that support will be vital as the post-season intensifies.
With the values of football, family, community, fun and fitness front and centre, the Eagles will look to bring their best version of the game into the finals. For a club that prides itself on being the pride of Murrumbateman, every September opportunity is one to be seized.
The finals journey is underway. Supporters are encouraged to get behind the boys and help create the atmosphere that makes Murrumbateman footy special.
