Yass Triathlon Club represented the country in the 2025 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Wollongong from the 15th to the 19th of October.
Mel Flood, Lauren Bullman, and Sarah Watson (pictured) took on the standard distance event, powering through the challenging course while representing the club and region. Sarah would go on to get second place. Geri Zeiler and Amanda Miller took on the sprint distance, showing off their speed and determination on the world stage. President and second-place winner Sarah Watson said she was very proud of the team for their efforts.
“From a President’s perspective and founder of Yass Valley Triathlon Club, I’m so proud of the members who raced from Yass at this world championship level, they did the Yass Valley very proud, and all raced really well in warm conditions. It was hot.
“There were 73 countries represented from around the globe at the World Championship. We did really well as a Club and country. Australia was strong in the medal tally.

“I was very happy to get on the podium as the second in the world for standard distance triathlon, which I’ve been training for several years.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever got on a podium in the World Championship triathlon arena, so that’s very exciting for me personally.
“The other four who raced it were their first time racing on a world championship stage for triathlon, so they are to be commended. It inspired the rest of the Triathlon Club to continue racing and to aim higher after seeing their mates race in the green and gold.

“It’s such an amazing feeling to represent your country in the sport that you love and wear the green and gold, and racing against athletes from across 73 countries is something you’ll never forget.
“Your family on the side-lines and your friends cheering for you, not just for you as a person, but the family who supports you to get there. It’s just as meaningful for that family of the athlete to be there as well because they understand the sacrifice and they’ve been a part of that journey along with the athletes to get across the world championship fin-ish line.”
Australia’s Matthew Hauser also won the men’s World Triathlon Championship Series, ending a 15-year drought for Australia, making it a good showing for the country.
