The Yass SPIN Foundation was thrilled to receive a generous $500 donation from the Yass Quick Quilters last week, presented during a warm and welcoming afternoon tea at the Yass Golf Club.
“We were invited to be presented a donation of $500 from the Yass Quick Quilters,” said Carly Scanes, president of Yass SPIN.
“We attended their afternoon tea at the Golf Club, which they do every Thursday, and they presented us with a donation.”
The Quick Quilters, a local group of talented crafters who meet weekly, decided to give back to the community with some extra funds they had accumulated.
“They had some funds that they needed to do something with and they decided to donate it to charity,” Scanes explained.
As with all donations received by SPIN, the money will go directly to supporting people in need in the local community.
“It’s the same as how we allocate all of our funds,” she said.
“People contact us and our team behind the scenes makes the decisions as to who’s eligible for the funds and where that goes.”
The afternoon was about more than just the money it was a valuable chance to connect.
“The afternoon tea was lovely,” Scanes said.
“There were some home-made cakes and a cuppa and it was lovely to sit around and have a chat. Some of the young people that were at the afternoon didn’t know what SPIN was about, so it allowed us to explain what we do.”
The donation highlights the spirit of generosity in the Yass community and groups like SPIN are keeping that spirit alive.
“The SPIN Foundation very much helps our community,” Scanes said.
“The cost of living hurts a lot of people, so it allows us to be able to give back. And we’re a great bunch of people we have lots of fun and we get to meet a lot of inspir-ing people.”
SPIN has several events on the horizon, including Pyjama Day on Friday, August 8, and the Bowning Hill Walk in September. “Everyone gets to wear their pyjamas for the day, which is probably the best day of the year,” said Scanes with a laugh.
