Current CEO of Yass Valley Council Gayleen Burley speaking at the breakfast.
On June 6, the Yass Valley Business Chamber held a Business Breakfast at Trader and Co from 7:20am onwards dubbed the “Networking Breakfast”. The monthly breakfast’s June instalment was especially significant due to a panel of representatives being present from Transgrid and the HumeLink project.
Mary Clare Walker of Yass Business Chamber, said, “The breakfast tends to revolve around State and Federal significant infrastructure for the Yass Valley, challenges and opportunities. It’s something that we’ve been running for about two years now, to outline challenges and opportunities on a specific subject to give greater information and connections to the business community to connect and understand these issues and find opportunities for the Yass Valley moving forward. This was no different.

“We had a panel of five from HumeLink and Transgrid. It was basically an opportunity to understand how businesses can get involved with HumeLink East and what HumeLink East is going to do for the community.
“HumeLink is happening and they’re going to come to Yass and they have their own priorities. The Yass Valley has its own understanding of what these projects mean. We really want to turn around and say, okay, what are we going to do together to help build the Yass Valley and its people?
“It was trying to create that space of positive conversation to have a greater understanding of what the project is, what they can do to develop connections. We had interviews and then we had questions afterwards if anyone wanted to get up and talk to the people themselves to discuss any issues that they saw on the project, but also to discuss opportunities.

“They’re very interested in further developing those connections and the information flows so that we can create a positive out of the development, out of infrastructure.
“The breakfast, we do the first Friday of every month, except for January.
“The breakfast is a fantastic initiative. We tend to get between 30 and 50 people at any breakfast as it can depend on the subject. We also have the option of watching online. We have Facebook Live going the whole time so you can catch up on it. We tend to get 1,000 to 2,000 people watching it that way. There is also the newsletter that we give a little brief update and also other details.

“If member businesses or organisations have some updates for businesses, we put it in the newsletter and get that out. We also have Facebook, a website and a directory for small businesses.
“There’s all these different ways to connect small businesses in the Yass Valley and we’re constantly trying to develop and grow that. If anyone has a small business they should get on board and get involved because there is space for their voice and we would love to hear from them and to help grow our thriving community.”
