Worth toasting! – Idyllic Hills Anniversary Gold

This week’s “swirl” is the 2019 Shiraz Viognier from Idyllic Hills Wines.

The team at Idyllic Hills have a philosophy of quality over quantity and their wines generally sell out each year. For us punters, this means that each year they release fresh and vibrant wines for us to enjoy.

This Shiraz Viognier is classic cool climate stuff.

The colour in the glass is a vibrant, bright and bold red.

The swirl reveals heady aromas of richly ripened blackberries and dark cherries with the classic Murrumbateman style pepper and spice notes and a fragrant almost perfumed lift from the Viognier.

In the mouth, the ripe dark fruit flavours continue with well-balanced acid and fine tannins and even a pleasant lick of charry oak at the end.

Enjoy this cracking cool-climate style with a Moroccan spiced and chargrilled lamb backstrap.

I bought my bottle from David at the Murrumbateman Village Markets for $30, but you can find out more about Idyllic Hills Wines here – https://www.idyllichillswines.com.au

What IS Idyllic Hills Anniversary Gold?

This special wine is an harmonious blend of two Rhone Valley varietals – Shiraz and Viognier, bottled during David & Jacquie’s 50th (Golden) Wedding Anniversary.

Each year David produces quantities of straight varieties as well as blends from their Murrumbateman Estate grown Viognier, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Idyllic Hills Wines is a family-run and owned small business; David and Jacquie’s home is located at their vineyard in Murrumbateman.

As they do not have a Cellar Door to host your visit, they will deliver within the district, or you can catch them at one of the Farmers Markets they attend.

All their details are on their website
