A ceremony steeped in tradition and youthful ambition took place at Yass Scout Hall recently, as Imogen Cassidy became the first Venturer Scout in 77 years to be awarded the King’s Scout Award in Yass. She also marked a family milestone as the third generation in her scouting lineage to earn Scouting’s highest honour.
Imogen, who grew up exploring the rugged trails around Tumut and Yass, completed more than 30 challenging activities in personal growth, outdoor activities and creative skills, and an intensive leadership course to qualify for the accolade. Along the way, she volunteered at community events—raising funds for Legacy and the Royal Flying Doctor Service—and led the Yass Anzac Day flag ceremony on behalf of the Scouts and RSL.
Her mother, Tina Cassidy, and uncle, Adam Farquharson, both received the Queen’s Scout Award at Yass in the past. During the ceremony, Adam reflected on his own journey: “Scouting taught me resilience and service. Seeing Imogen take that next step fills me with pride.”
Tina joined her scout leaders in presenting Imogen with her badge. Her Grandmother Lesley Farquharson, proudly presenting Imogen with her honour board name plate on behalf of Brett, who also received his Queen’s Scout Award. Receiving the distinguished award capped four years of dedication, during which Imogen honed skills in project management, STEM problem-solving, leadership, and teamwork.
Her Scouting training covered everything from advanced navigation and first aid to survival programs. Venturer Leader Ian Bain and Regional Venturer Commissioner Greg Press praised Imogen’s commitment and drive. By earning the King’s Scout Award, Imogen cements her family’s proud tradition in Yass which continues for generations to come.
