President of the Bookham Red Cross and Auxiliary Noeleen Hazell succeeded in a federal grant application to plant Queen’s Jubilee Trees in Bookham. Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, the Hon. Kristy McBain dedicated the tree planting in celebration of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee just one week before the Queen’s passing.
“We’re delighted and surprised to receive [the grant], so we’re looking forward to progressing with that. It’s also been wonderful because it coincided with the masterplan. We’ll be able to kickstart the masterplan with the tree planting,” said Mrs Hazell.
“It’s a great pleasure to see everyone here. I’d like to thank Lynette from Council for submitting it for me when I quickly wrote up the application,” she continued.
The Federal grant program supports eligible groups and organisations to honour The Queen and her legacy of achievements through community-based commemorative tree planting events.
“The Queen’s Jubilee Tree planting is an acknowledgment and marks the seventy years of service that Queen Elizabeth has made, not only in England but the entirety of Commonwealth countries. It’s really important that we do mark it; I don’t think we’ll ever again see in our history that length of service by a monarch.
“I look forward to coming back when the trees are in permanent locations and admiring the work that is being done here in Bookham,” said Ms McBain.
