A new co-workspace has opened in Yass filling a need in the movement toward remote work caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Country to Coast Co-Work founder Carly Hartas (pictured) worked remotely for several years in her previous role and regularly utilised co-working spaces.
“Whenever we went on holidays I would jump into [a co-working space] and I absolutely love the concept that you can choose where you want to work,” she said. “I think it’s a modern way to work.”
“Post COVID-19 people are working in a hybrid situation, where they’re working from both home and in the office.”
Carly saw a need for more accessible and dedicated co-working spaces, particularly in rural communities.
Many people in regional areas live out of town but working parents often spend excess time on the road commuting for school drop-offs and pick-ups.
“They spend less time at the desk and that has an impact on their career, their productivity, and stress levels.”
Carly said she thought the co-working space would also fulfill a need for workers travelling to regional areas.
Additionally, as most Yass Valley residents know, internet coverage can be spotty and unreliable with many planned outages for repairs and maintenance.
“I often get notifications of planned and unplanned electrical or network outages, and I think, where am I going to work? I mustn’t be the only one.”
Carly tried working out of a café when she was a remote worker but felt she could only stay for a short while.
“I only lasted a couple of hours because I was conscious of taking up a table and their Wi-Fi, despite always grabbing a meal and drink while I was there,” she said. “But I also wanted somewhere that was quiet, where I could focus or work on something particularly sensitive.”
Carly launched Country to Coast Co-Work in January and has consistently had desks booked every week since. This March is Small Business Month and Carly is offering a 10% discount for any desk or package booked this month.
The desks start at an affordable $25 per day and include high-speed internet, printer access, breakout and meeting zones, and a separate fully stocked kitchen.
The breakout zone at the front of the office allows you to close the door for private discussions or meetings.
There are three, five, and ten-day passes available for a discounted rate.
In addition to the four hot desks available, there’s also a private office for $55 per day.
The space can also be booked for workshops, team planning, or strategy days.
