Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello, Yass Valley Times Wine Columnist
Like many wine drinkers in the Yass Valley region, when the mercury heads south, my wine preferences change from light and bright summertime whites to rich and robust wintertime reds. But when a serve of crisply battered, freshly caught south coast whiting is on the go, then there’s no option but to grab a crisp white from the fridge and in this case, becomes the wine of this week’s ‘swirl’ – the Murrumbateman Winery “Mollies” Sauvignon Blanc 2021.

This ‘savvy’ is a pale straw colour with flashes of white gold.
A swirl reveals vibrant tropical fruit aromas including passionfruit, freshly cut honeydew melon and dried mango. The palate is light, bright, energetic, and loaded with tropical fruit flavours. There’s a tingle of tartness on the tongue from the lively acid and then smooths out into a highly gluggable finish.
Our bottle went sensationally with the battered whiting, simply adorned with a squeeze of lemon and a shake of sea salt. It would go really well with Thai curry or any fresh seafood dish. My bottle came as part of my wine club case, but you can also buy it for $35 online here.
