The Murrumbateman Eagles have announced their new head coach for the 2023 season is going to be Mark Welsh.
Welsh, who has been the Eagles Assistant Coach for the past two seasons, was an integral part of Murrumbateman’s inaugural premiership last year and has his sights on retaining the Cup and the Club going back-to-back in 2023.
Eagles President Andy Ingold said the decision to appoint Welsh to head coach was the right one, after going through a comprehensive decision process last year.
“We sat down as a board and had a chat with a couple of guys last year. That included Mark Welsh and Jake Prince,” Ingold said.
“I had a few ideas in my head about how I wanted to run, as did they. We sort of just sat down and chatted and Mark was appointed through that. Princey will be the assistant coach this year.
“It hadn’t been announced publicly but the footy club knew the decision from the end-of-season presentation last year.
“Mark has been the assistant coach the last couple of seasons under Brent Fraser. It felt like a natural step for him to step up into the head role and see if he can keep going with what we did last year.
“It’s natural progression for Mark to take on that senior role and hopefully he can continue on this year.”
