Community sporting organisations across NSW are being urged to get their boots on, with the NSW Government throwing open applications for $4.65 million in Local Sport Grant Program funding.
The Program delivers grants to community sporting organisations for new equipment, programs and facility upgrades that support and encourage participation in sport and active recreation across the state, from grassroots clubs in regional towns to suburban sporting associations in Sydney.
Last year, $4.49 million was awarded across NSW for 586 community sport projects, helping clubs put more people on the field, on the court and in the pool.
This year’s program includes grants from $2,000 to $20,000, with up to $50,000 available in each electorate. Funding will support projects that increase participation and retention, provide inclusive opportunities for under-represented groups, and strengthen the sustainability, capability and facilities of community sporting organisations.
The NSW Government says they are committed to breaking down the barriers that stop people getting involved in sport, whether that’s the cost of new equipment, a lack of facilities, or programs that don’t reflect the diversity of local communities.
This funding is about backing the clubs and volunteers who show up week after week to keep community sport running, and making sure the benefits of sport, physical, social and mental, are shared right across NSW.
Minister for Sport, Steve Kamper, says, “Community sport is the heartbeat of so many towns and suburbs across this state, and the Minns Labor Government is backing it in.
“Our volunteers and local clubs do the heavy lifting week in, week out, often with limited resources, and this is our way of saying we’ve got their back.
“If your club has a project or program it’s been wanting to deliver, now is the time to apply and take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.”
