Kristy McBain MP visits Murrumbateman’s New All-Abilities Playground Site

The progress of Murrumbateman’s new all-abilities playground is taking shape, with the Minister for Regional Development, Local Government and Territories of Australia, The Hon Kristy McBain MP, visiting the site to see construction underway and the benefits the project will deliver for the growing community.

The $1 million project will provide Murrumbateman with an inclusive, all-ages, all-abilities playground, creating a much-needed community recreation space for local families.

With Murrumbateman experiencing rapid growth, the project will address the community’s need for a large, accessible playground where people of all ages and abilities can play, connect and enjoy the outdoors.

Project Status
Construction of the new playground commenced on 13 April, 2026, with the Council-appointed contractor progressing works on site.

The playground site at 10 Hercules Street, Murrumbateman remains closed to the public while construction is underway.

Works are progressing towards completion, with the new all-abilities playground due for completion in October 2026.

Once complete, the playground will provide a range of inclusive and accessible play opportunities for children and families of all ages and abilities, creating a much-needed community recreation space for Murrumbateman’s growing community.

Project funding and background
The $1 million project is funded through the Australian Government’s Investing in our Communities Program, the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program (Phase 4) and Council’s Development Contributions Reserve.

In 2022, the Murrumbateman community received an election commitment from the Australian Government of $750,000 towards a new all-abilities playground.

Council engaged Complete Urban to undertake the playground design, with the concept design endorsed by Council in August 2024. Council subsequently endorsed 10 Hercules Street, Murrumbateman as the location for the new playground in May 2025, with the design updated to suit the new site.

Council thanks the Murrumbateman community for its participation in the consultation and continued interest in the project.
