Four low-level road crossings will be replaced across the Yass Valley under the Government’s Bridge Renewal Program.
Bridges at Back Creek Road over Back Creek in Gundaroo, Nanima Road over Jeir Creek in Springrange and both bridges on Greenwood Road over the Yass River and Murrumbateman Creek will be replaced.
All low-level crossings are proposed to be replaced by concrete two-lane bridges.
A requirement of the grant is that Council must co-contribute a minimum of 20 per cent of the total project cost, which will come from the Council’s Development Contributions Reserve.
The estimated cost to deliver the four projects is $11,855,345, which will be funded by $9,487,276 from the Bridge Renewal Program and $2,371,069 from Council.
The one-off replacement of the Back Creek Road bridge will cost $3,562,605 in total from a $2,850,084 bridge renewal grant and a $712,521 contribution from Council. The similar replacement of the Nanima Road Bridge will cost $2,051,670 in total from a $1,641,336 grant and $410,334 Council contribution. Lastly, the replacement of the two low-level crossings on Greenwood Road will cost $6,241,070 in total from a $4,992,856 grant and a $1,248,214 Council contribution.
The Council’s Development Contributions Reserve has an estimated balance of $3.4M as of June 30, 2023. The reserve’s estimated annual income is $500,000, which will ensure the reserve will maintain sufficient funds to contribute to future projects, grant applications etc.
Pre-construction design must be completed before the end of May 2023, construction must be commenced before the following May 2024 and completed by May 2025 as a part of the grant conditions of the Bridge Renewal Program.
