Draft Main Street Masterplan Drop-in Session

Yass Valley residents can have their say on the Main Street Masterplan draft this Friday, July 15 from 9:30am to 12:00pm at the Rotary Street Stall on the corner of Meehan and Comur Streets.

Locals can meet with consultants from sala4D who have developed the plan and sketches based on community feedback to date.

The plan is evolving and growing, so the Yass Valley Council wants to hear from residents.

At last month’s concept main street masterplan public meeting the consultants said the masterplan redesigned the main street with a focus on people, both locals and visitors alike.

With a renewed focus on pedestrians and walkability over cars the consultants had several interesting points about the speed zone, parking, and other methods of slowing cars down and making the area more accessible to people.

The masterplan will be the guide for investment by Council over the next 10 years, to cater to the existing and future needs of the community.

It is a synthesis of the existing main street conditions and planning documents, community consultation, the Council’s planning direction for the good of Yass Valley, and best practice design.

Current plans outline several key updates such as the possibility of seating every 100 meters, more lighting, parking and increased foliage.

Head down to the street stall to tell the consultants about your thoughts on landscaping, car parking, street furniture and town entry signs.

If you can’t make it this Friday, then there will be further opportunities to have your say on the plan throughout August.
