Congratulations to Liz Perks, our 2025 Southern NSW LHD Midwife of the Year.

Southern NSW Local Health District, (SNSWLHD) is proud to recognise the invaluable contribution of our midwives this International Day of the Midwife, celebrated globally.

Across the District’s five maternity units, midwives play an essential role in delivering compassionate, skilled, and life-changing care to women, babies and families every day.

Today, SNSWLHD honours the dedication, professionalism and strength of this remarkable workforce—and celebrates one outstanding individual. Liz is a community midwife based in Yass and was nominated by her colleagues for her exceptional clinical expertise and deeply caring approach.

Her gentle, person-centred care is highly valued by families and colleagues alike, and her dedication makes a meaningful difference in the lives of new mothers and their babies. SNSWLHD District Director Nursing, Midwifery and Clinical Governance, Peter Leach, praised Liz’s contribution to the community and acknowledged the vital work of midwives across the District.

“Liz consistently strives to provide exceptional, person-centred care for new mothers and their babies through her dedicated work ethic,” Mr Leach said.

“This year has marked continued growth for midwifery services across Southern NSW, with the ongoing expansion of the Midwifery Group Practice model across the region— ensuring more women have access to continuity of care throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postnatal journey.

“To Liz, and to every midwife across our District— thank you. You change lives every day.” Ms Perks will be nominated in the 2025 NSW Health Excellence in Nursing and Midwifery Awards, which will be held in Sydney later this year.
