A man has been rescued after becoming stuck in a cave in the Hume PD last night.
Yesterday (Sunday 11 July 2021), a small group of people were caving at Wee Jasper, an hour south-east of Yass, and were abseiling 20m down into a cave.
Emergency services were contacted just after 7pm, after a 26-year-old man made it ten metres underground but became stuck when attempting to ascend through a small opening.
With assistance from other members of the group, the man was assisted down to the bottom of the cave.
As the cavers were prepared, they were able to send food, water and warm clothing down to the man.
Officers attached to The Hume Police District arrived on scene at 8pm, along with Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Ambulance paramedics, Ambulance Rescue and the TOLL Rescue helicopter.
A vertical rescue commenced just before 10pm by specialist police from the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, and the man was returned to the surface less than an hour later.
The man was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics but was uninjured.
