Zac’s Place Hosts Classic Car Show

Mark August 20 down in your calendar because Zac’s Place is hosting a classic car show from 10am to 2pm at 15 Pritchett Street, behind Saint Clements Anglican Church.

Zac’s Place and the Yass Valley Cruisers are teaming up for the free-entry event, which is sure to be a fun-filled Saturday family activity.

Ros Stewart, a co-founder of Zac’s Place, began the independent not-for-profit in 2011 alongside her husband Glenn Stewart. The pair established a community centre which has been used for many events and programs like drop-in time and concerts, youth events, youth groups, and self-help support groups.

They also provide crisis housing in Murrumburah, Baz’s Place, and two transitional housing options in Harden for rural people needing accommodation for up to six months.

Zac’s Place also runs a gym and community centre in Harden and is open for drop-ins with many fitness and community programs available.

However, the Classic Car Show is the first event of this nature that Zac’s Place has held. Ros said the show is multigenerational and for the whole of Yass. There will be some food options, including a barbecue and coffee van.

Hopefully, there will also be a range of other activities for different age groups to participate in, but Ros said they are still in the planning stages.

Ros said Zac’s Place had the idea to host the event after Yass Valley Council began speaking to different community groups about holding regular activities in town.

“It’s just a nice event for the community. We’ve had a relationship with [Yass Valley Cruisers] for a long time, so we just asked them if they’d be interested in helping us do it.”

Ros said they were attempting to make the activities car-themed, and they have some temporary tattoos on hand for the event.

She is also considering a photo competition where entrants take photos with a car and the best photo wins.

“I thought people could be a bit creative about taking photos of themselves with the cars.”

In addition to the classic cars, there will also be some motorbikes, although they won’t be vintage.

If you’re interested in showing off your vehicle or getting involved in the event, then please contact Ros on 0406 379 561.
