“Yassplease” Our Wine of the Week from Long Rail Gully has a special offer for locals

Sixty Second Swirl – Long Rail Gully Wines has one of the largest vineyards in the Yass Valley region and is located along the road of the same name, just north of Murrumbateman.

Their labels are adorned with the ram’s head, a nod to the top-class Merinos that grazed these paddocks on the original Merryville Marino Stud.

These days, wool has given way to wine and the Parker’s produce a quality range of cool-climate drops. One of their best is this week’s “swirl” – the Long Rail Gully Cabernet Sauvignon 2017.

In the glass, the colour is deeply dark red with flashes of purple.

A swirl reveals delightful, varietally true aromas of blackcurrants, mulberries, and dark plums with some cool climate star anise spice.

On the palate, there’s ripe, fleshy, dark berry fruit flavours with fine tannins and a lovely little lick of acid. Everything is in balance here.

A cracking cool climate Cabernet like this deserves a quality piece of lamb or beef straight off the chargrill.

I enjoyed mine with garlic and rosemary lamb cutlets. My bottle was enjoyed at the Murrumbateman Tavern and is available online for $25.
