The Redbacks men’s Community League 2 (CLM2) side played the Canberra Kangaroos in Page and recorded a 3-2 victory, while the Community League 5 (CLM5) side played Burns FC and lost 4-1 at Walker Park.

In the CLM2 win, Tim Hazel scored two goals and received the Player’s Player award, with Brad Neilson scoring the other.

In the Redbacks CLM5 loss, Mitch Darmody scored the single goal in a tough 4-1 loss at home, while Richard Alley received the Player’s Player award.

Redbacks Coach Ryan Betts said the weekend’s fixtures posed another challenging task for the Club with both teams down on playing numbers.

“We had 10 players out on the weekend. We only had 20 players available to play across the two teams,” Betts said.

“We made a deal with the Canberra Kangaroos to push back the kick-off time 35 minutes to give a few players the chance to drive over from Walker Park to Page to back-up for a second game.

“We had about five players who were injured and then a few people who were either sick or just away. So, it was a bit of a struggle on the weekend.”

This Saturday, CLM5 will play the ADFA Vikings at Addison Oval in Canberra, while CLM2 will come up against Canberra City FC at Walker Park in Yass.

Hopefully, both Redbacks sides can return to the winners list this weekend.
