A tree fell across Browne Street last week after several thunderstorms lashed the region.
The State Emergency Services (SES) received the call but as the tree covered the road it fell in Yass Valley Council’s jurisdiction.
“Council responded quickly to reports of a large tree which had fallen on Browne Street on Friday,” a Council spokesperson said. “Our staff worked for over an hour to clear the tree and ensure the area was safe for residents.”
Acting SES Unit Commander Jason Bell said besides the fallen tree and thunder it was a quiet event.
“It’s always good not getting any jobs,” he said. “Just shows that people are listening with their cleaning out of the gutters and all that sort of stuff.”
NSW’s Northern Tablelands weren’t so lucky with a tornado ripping through Armidale late last Thursday.
Vehicles were turned over and roofs were torn from houses as half the town lost power.
The tornado followed an evening of severe storms over Greater Sydney which saw hailstones, as large as five centimetres in diameter, pelt suburbs across western and south-west Sydney.
Several thunderstorms also lashed the state’s east coast before battering south-east Queensland as a low-pressure system pushed several storm fronts across the state.
