Welcome to The Spotty Rose in the heart of Yass

A new boutique store, The SpottyRose, has opened in Yass, situated along the main street at the Memorial Hall, 88 Comur Street, and is currently only just over two months old.

The Spotty Rose specialises in women’s boutique clothing and handmade items, such as jewellery, with hopes to expand stock into items such as footwear.

Business owner and artist Rose McDonell spoke to the YassValley Times about the store, how the items are sourced, what style options are available, and about herself.

On the history behind The Spotty Rose, Rose talks about the transition from online shops and marketplace stalls to The Spotty Rose as it is now, noting the inspiration as an early passion and interest in boutique items.

“I first started out as a jewellery maker, and I’ve been doing it for about six years. I’ve always loved fashion so I just eventually moved on. I was online for about three or four years now, and I sell all over Australia but I wasn’t getting the traffic from Yass, so when the opportunity came about when they put the expression of interest on the Yass notice board I put my hand up straight away and I got the okay”, said Rose.

Handmade items are Australian-made and wherever possible, sourced locally from personal connections and relationships made through previous businesses and workshops. Handmade items are primarily Canberra-made but extend to Mosmon into New South Wales.

For those curious about what style The Spotty Rose offers and what helps set the business apart from other boutique stores, Rose notes that the store offers a niche selection and that the location at the Memorial Hall offers a unique visual atmosphere, as well as having foot traffic from the Tyger art gallery.

The commercial spaces at the front of the Memorial Hall have a creative focus designed to draw in foot traffic to the heart of the Yass CBD.

“My fashion is quite unique, and we don’t have very much of my style in Yass or Murrumbateman, so as a small business owner I aim to cater my unique style and passion to local clientele. The Spotty Rose embraces the timeless beauty of coastal chic fashion fused with vintage allure,” said Rose, commenting further,

“I’m right in the heart (of the Yass main street) at the Memorial Building. It’s a beautiful building. Just being in that space is great, and the aesthetics of the building and the room work well with my business. I get a range of different types of people because I’m right in the middle there, and I get a lot of customers who have just visited the art gallery. I’m right next to the Tyger art gallery.”

The Spotty Rose is open on Friday and Saturday from 10 am to 4 pm, and on Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm.
