Welcome Ryan

The Yass Valley Times is excited to welcome Ryan Betts, a local of the Yass community who joined our editorial team last week. One of Ryan’s first writing assignments is introducing himself to our readers.

I was born and raised in Yass, along with my two older brothers. I attended Mt Carmel School from kindergarten until year ten before completing my high school studies at St Francis Xavier College in Canberra. I then went on to study at the University of Canberra, obtaining degrees in International Studies and Media Arts & Production. It was here that I developed an interest in technology and started to learn Japanese. I am a PC enthusiast who has studied things such as Web Design, 3D Animation and Cinematography.

I grew up playing a variety of sports in Yass, including soccer, cricket, netball, tennis, and little athletics. I am very passionate about sports and am currently a member of the Yass Redbacks Football Club, The Yass Redbacks Dart team, and play cricket for the Bowning Buffaloes. I have been playing Football for the Redbacks for over ten years; accumulating more than 200 games for the club. When I was younger, I wanted to play everything. I am lucky to have been involved in as many sporting communities as I have. I really enjoy the community that playing sports provides.

I have made lifelong friends through my involvement in local sports. I believe that being a part of the Yass Valley my whole life gives me a good understanding of the town, villages and our communities. My passion for sport and the connections I have made in town have given me a strong interest in local news. I hope I can bring my interests to The Yass Valley Times to entertain and inform our readers. Ryan Betts
