After more than 60 years involved with the Yass Show, John Buckmaster is as excited as ever for the show to return this Saturday.
“I’ve been involved ever since I could walk and talk,” John said when quizzed about his history with the Yass Show.
John has held the role of Chief Steward of the fruit and vegetable section and takes much of the responsibility for managing the pavilion, in a role he has held for close to four decades.
“I’ve been chief steward for probably 40 years.”
“I’m not involved in the service clubs, and it’s the one interest that I’ve always had,” he said.
Coming from a farming background and always a grower of vegetables, the show was something he always felt attached to.
“For a lot of my life, I was a farmer, and we always supported the show,” he said.
As for highlights from his time with the show, John recalled being awarded a life membership as his personal favourite memory.
President of the Yass Show Society, Anne Hazell, said John was an invaluable asset to show organisers.
“We rely on him very, very heavily to organise everything at the pavilion,” she said.
John said there would be something for everybody to enjoy and implored the Yass Valley community to get down and support their show.
“I would encourage everybody to come along and have a good look around.”
“I think it’s a chance for the local community to get together and have a good day out,” he said.
There are still plenty of tickets available; purchase them online today and be there on Saturday for what promises to be yet another great Yass Show.
