A beacon that continues to shine a light on how damn good wines from this region can be, is Clonakilla.
Clonakilla was one of the first vineyards to the region and is about to knock up a half-century.
The pedigree is high and long-lasting.
This week’s swirl is their Hilltops Shiraz 2019.
The shiraz grapes for this class act are from Young, just to the north of the Yass Valley.
The colour that swirls around the glass is deep red with flashes of purple.
The swirl reveals enticing aromas of blackberries, black cherries, mulberries, along with a dollop of vanilla and a dusting of white pepper.
The palate is plush with ripe dark berry fruit flavours, a lick of tannin and a long and lingering aftertaste.
This is a great value drop at $28 from the cellar door and online
