Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello

Perched on top of Murrumbateman near the highway on Euroka Avenue, McKellar Ridge Wines is going from strength to strength in all aspects of their operation.  Owners and winemaking dynamic duo, John and Marina Sekoranja, continue to craft cool climate wines of quality and elegance.  Their wines reflect their enthusiasm and passion for their craft and this week’s “swirl” – the McKellar Ridge Canberra Riesling 2021 – is one such example.

The McKellar Ridge Riesling

This Riesling is a pale straw in colour with bright flashes from within.  After a swirl, the aroma sensation is all about the zing and zest of lemon and lime juice with the added florally fragrant lift of citrus blossom.  In the mouth, refreshing lemon and lime juice flavours rave on with a lovely zing of acid and a line of minerality. The aftertaste is long and lingering.

We enjoyed our bottle with homemade spicy Korean gochujang chicken (pictured above) and the refreshing citrus flavours and acid tang of the wine combined well with the rich flavours and chilli hit of the chicken.  This Riesling would also go nicely with freshly grilled seafood or even crispy fried vegetable tempura.  I bought mine direct from the winery, but you can buy on-line for $28 here: https://www.mckellarridgewines.com.au
