The Division Four State League Women’s have had another colossal victory last week winning 10-0 against ANU FC.
The result was on the back of four goals to Jacinta Murphy, three to Victoria Alley, and one each to Hollie Massey, Melanie Bullock and Makenna Gordon. They are now one game and nearly 40 goals clear of second place, which means they’re practically two games clear of the competition.
“We were actually talking throughout the game to try to beat our previous record. We didn’t get there but we are still happy with the result,” said Captain Makenna Gordon.
After finishing runners up in 2019, new players and the overall improvement of the group sees the Redbacks positioned for a deep finals run this season.
“We’ve got a few new players this year that came to the club and a real mix of demographics. We’ve got a few younger players and then we’ve also got a few mums on the team as well.”
“Our mantra is play our game the way we want to play it, and that seems to work most of the time,” said Makenna.
The side has been an offensive juggernaut all season, and Makenna sees no reason that should change as finals draws nearer.
“We’ve got a wide ranging attack, with quite a few goal scorers across the team.”
“If we keep playing the way that we do and try not to get too caught up with who we’re playing, we are trying to go that one better,” she said.
The Division Six State League Women’s won 4-2 against Belnorth FC. Sharni Manton scored two goals, whilst Melanie Bullock and Amanda Eccleston scored one apiece. They remain a game and 20 goals behind the first placed Belwest Foxes in second.
The Division Two State League Men’s won 2-0 against UC. Christopher Tuang and James Boulcott were the goal scorers. The Men’s firsts are a game and half clear on top of the table.
Their Reserves tied 2-2 with UC. Brett Darmody and John Goethals were the goal scorers, as they narrowly missed out on a victory that could’ve separated them from the competition even further.
The Community League Men’s tied 2-2 against ANU, with Bryn Skelton and Cameron Betts the goal scorers.
