Rams commence training ahead of shortened season

Yass take on the Boorowa Goldies in the Monaro competition. The Rugby training started last week for the Yass Rams, “It has been tough so far as we can only do non-contact training in groups of ten players” coach Nathan Crisp remarked. Nevertheless, it is hoped that full contact training will resume later in June. “We have to have sanitization stations at Victoria Park, the first training is from 5:45pm till 6:45pm and the second group from seven till eight”

Crisp continued. The competition is looking to run between 7 and 10 rounds, and it seems likely that the Crookwell side won’t participate as it is believed a number of team members are associated with aged care and wish to not take any risks with elderly residents. The South Coast Monaro competition usually supports 8 – 10 Rugby Clubs, so with an expected start in late July the finish will be later than usual.

Crisp noted; “We did pick up and extra two or three players in the off-season and with a squad of 20 or so players we are looking for a good winter.” A new season draw is expected in the next couple of weeks and the ACT Brumbies have been directing the Yass Rams as to what they can and cannot do in respect of training and playing.

Nathan Crisp indicated that full contact training would resume in a couple of weeks. The Rams finished down the competition ladder in 2019 but there should be enough enthusiasm from Crisp and his players to move up the table a couple of places in 2020. A shortened season and a favourable draw could help them. RG
