Acting Inspector Mathew Carroll said investigators attached to the Hume Police District have commenced their enquiries.

“Forensic Police from Goulburn also attended the scene and have seized items for further forensic examination,” said Acting Inspector Carroll.

Anyone with information which may assist Police with their investigation should call Yass Police Station on PH 62269399 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000

On Yass Roads

Police report the Christmas – New Year period was good in the Yass area.

‘We avoided any serious or fatal motor vehicle collisions. The Christmas New Year led to a lot of people travelling through the area and it was pleasing to see most road users adhered to the practices of don’t drive while you’re fatigued, take regular rest breaks, don’t drive impaired or get distracted by your mobile phone,” said Acting Inspector Carroll.

The Yass Police have extended their thanks to the majority of drivers who assisted in making the roadways around the Yass area safe during this time.

“We did have a number of drink-driving detections which in itself is a little worrying, but it was good that these people were apprehended before they were involved in or caused a serious or fatal crash,” Acting Inspector Carroll reflected.

The worst recorded drink driving incident for the period was on the 27th of December on the Barton Highway where a white Volkswagon Polo Hatch left the road at Jeir near Murrumbateman. The female driver was tested roadside and then again at Yass Police Station where she allegedly recorded a blood alcohol level eight times the legal limit at 0.416.

The 36-year-old was charged with ‘drive with high range PCA’ and was issued with a Court Attendance Notice to appear at Yass Local Court on Friday 15 January.
