Not Magpie Saturday.

It was an up and down day at Walker Park last Saturday for the Yass Magpies when they took on the Goulburn Bulldogs, but mostly down! The ‘Pies youth league side went out first and went down 20-10 to the Bulldogs, prop Tom Bell was player’s player for the game.

In better news, the KFS Magpies took on Goulburn in the following match and managed a 22-4 win to stay at the top of the ladder. But the big disappointment was the Reserve Grade team’s loss of their undefeated status by Goulburn 16-22. The home side led 16-6 at halftime but failed to score a point in the second half. Jai Smith was selected as the player’s player.

Things failed to improve when the Magpies firsts took the field as Goulburn scored after only 3 minutes, the Bulldogs repeated the dose only 6 minutes later to lead ten nil. Yass managed to repel the visitors for a time but were behind 16-0 until the 25th minute of the game when they managed a try of their own and went to halftime down 6-20.

Straight after the break the Magpies’ Loghan Lewis crossed the chalk, Davis converted and Yass were back in the match 12-20. However, the Bulldogs wore the home side down in spite of a Housden try for Yass to lose 18-34. Coach Hardy said; “They are a very young side and tend to drift away from our objectives at times, we could be up there in the top 2 or 3 teams if we stuck to what we planned.” Three points went to Ben Davis, two to Bayley Timmer and one point to Mitch Turner, who was also “player’s player”.

In other results Queanbeyan Roos 60 def Gungahlin 14, The Sharks defeated the Rams 34-12, Tuggeranong had a narrow 24-22 victory over West Belconnen. Yass have now slipped to 8th on the ladder.

In George Tooke Shield Binalong had an 18-14 win over Crookwell for the Brahmans to move into fourth spot on their ladder. Brahman’s President Ben Spencer said; “The game was played at a fast pace, Binalong started with a try from our first touch of the ball. This may have altered our mindset a little as we started to drift away from the game plan, but it all was decided in the closing minutes.”

There were no matches this weekend with the long weekend.
