Murrumbateman Winery is our wine of the week with this stunning Sangiovese

Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello

It’s not surprising that Sangiovese is becoming a favourite amongst wine-loving punters.

The variety’s origin is from the Chianti region in Tuscany, Italy and is one of the food friendliest drops doing the rounds.

Bob Makin at Murrumbateman Winery crafts an excellent cool climate rendition, and his Murrumbateman Winery Sangiovese 2019 ticks all the food-friendly boxes.

This Sangiovese is a bright rose-red colour in the glass.

A swirl reveals aromas of red cherries and red currants with a sprinkling of dried herbs.

In the mouth, the wine is light to medium-bodied with vibrant red fruit flavours and a lively, lingering and food-friendly finish.

We enjoyed our bottle with slow-cooked lamb shanks with tomato and Italian herb-infused gravy but would go fantastically well with a charcuterie board, wood-fired pizza or pasta.

I bought my bottle via their wine club, but you can buy it online for $25 online.
