MURRUMBATEMAN VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER AWARDED RFSA YOUNG MEMBER OF THE YEAR

The NSW Rural Fire Service Association (RFSA) has named Murrumbateman rural firefighter Richard Alley as its ‘Young Member of the Year’.

Richard joined Murrumbateman Rural Fire Brigade as a junior member in 2013. A founding member of the RFSA Yass Valley Branch, Richard served as Branch Secretary from 2015-2017.

In 2018 he was elected Deputy Chair of the Branch and in 2020 became the Division 7 Branch Delegate to the RFSA State Council.

Over the years Richard has routinely encouraged young members to be involved with the RFSA. He regularly attends branch and divisional meetings, always leading by example.

In 2017 Richard was elected Captain of Murrumbateman Rural Fire Brigade, the youngest person in the Southern Tablelands to hold the position.

RFSA President Brian McDonough said Richard is a worthy recipient of the award ‘Young Member of the Year’.

“This award acknowledges a young member who has made exceptional contributions to the Association’s programs and projects, and Richard’s involvement in the Yass Valley Branch has had a significant impact on our ability to operate in the region.

“His capacity to communicate with all members, but most especially our young members, is inspiring, and we thank him for his contribution to the Association.

“Not only is he a worthy award winner, but an ideal candidate for future leadership roles within the NSW Rural Fire Service and the RFSA.”

Richard was presented with the award at a ceremony at RFSA Conference 2021 on 5 June 2021.
