Miller’s Pharmacy in Yass is now home to a brand-new defibrillator.
The defibrillator is part of former Ironman Guy Leech’s “Heart180”, which is aiming to get a defibrillator within 180 seconds of every Australian to help prevent deaths from cardiac arrests.
Peter Miller of Miller’s Pharmacy said the reasons for adding the defibrillator were twofold.
“We’ve put it in for two reasons, first to support our vaccination service and provide an added backup for adverse events.”
“Also, as part of Heart 180, he (Guy Leech) wants one available within 180 seconds of everyone in the community, meaning within three minutes no matter where you are in a town or city, you can have access to an AED.”
“Part of that was to use community pharmacies because there is one in most communities and most people live within two and a half kilometres of their pharmacy, and in towns like this, about 65% of the town live in that sort of time frame,” he said.
Peter wanted to ensure the community that all staff at Miller’s Pharmacy are trained or are receiving training to use the defibrillator.
Miller’s Pharmacy trading hours are:
Mon-Fri 8.30 am – 6:00 pm
Saturday 8.30 am – 2:00 pm
Sunday 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
The Yass Valley Times would like to congratulate Miller’s Pharmacy on a great initiative to help make Yass a safer place to live.
