Magpies gear up for another round

The Yass Magpies take on the Gungahlin Bulls in Round 4 of the Blumers Lawyers Canberra Raiders Cup this Saturday, April 30 at Walker Park.

Reserve Grade plays at 1:20pm and First Grade is set to play at 3pm.

Hopefully playing on home turf gives the boys a boost after both grades lost to the Goulburn City Bulldogs in an away game last week. The Reserve Grade fell to Goulburn 25 – nil while First Grade didn’t fare much better losing 36 – 6.

Meanwhile, the Yass Magpies Ladies are set for Round 1 of the 2022 Blumers Lawyers Katrina Fanning Shield (KFS) against the Goulburn City Bulldogs on April 30, also at Walker Park at 12pm.

KFS Coach Brendon Housten the girls had a good trial last weekend against the Woden Valley Rams coming away with a win in a short 45-minute match.

“There was a lot to take away from the trial game,” he said. “I’m pretty happy with performance but Goulburn is a tough side, so we’ll need to be on our game if we want to win.”

Brendon said although he was pretty confident going into the match, he’s also well aware of what the Goulburn side can do.

“Hopefully we can get a win for the club and to get the first one of the season for the club, would be a bit special.”
