Local winery Linear gets the food-friendly nod in our weekly sixty second swirl

Sixty Second Swirl by Brent Lello

Nathan Brown is relatively new to the Yass Valley wine scene, having previously run restaurants in Canberra.

Nathan’s passion and enthusiasm are clearly evident in the wines he produces and in a nod to his restaurant background, his wines in my experience are as food-friendly as you will find.

This week’s ‘swirl’ is such an example – the Linear Wines Tempranillo 2018.

This “Neo” is mahogany red with mauve edges in the glass.

To me, a swirl reveals deeply ripened dark cherries, plums and loads of spice including freshly crushed pepper and cloves.

There’s also a lovely sprinkle of dried oregano herb and a food-friendly savoury back note.

It’s medium-bodied and round on the palate, with ripe black cherry and plum flavours with a lick of lively acid and a lifting finish.

We enjoyed our bottle with medallions of eye fillet steak with mushroom and pepper gravy (pictured) but would go well with any red meat roast or BBQed lamb chops.

I bought mine from “Thyme to Taste” in Yass but can be bought online for $28.
